Hello - my name is Sherri Collins, and I am the Executive Director of the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH). I'm also a member of the National Association of State Agencies of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NASADHH). I'll be representing these organizations for the upcoming Deaf Seniors of America (DSA) June 4th webinar at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time on the Older Americans Act, or OAA. View vlog
I am thrilled that DSA is hosting this webinar about the OAA. This is a critically important topic, because the OAA impacts accessible services for our older adults who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind. I want to discuss the law itself, because now is the time that changes are being made. I want to improve the language in the law to ensure better services for our community, which, of course, I'll be discussing in detail during the webinar.
You'll also hear from TDIforAccess (TDI) regarding technology and access in the medical field, as well as an update from the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) on their top five priorities, one of which is serving older adults.
For the first hour of the DSA webinar, each of the panelists will give a presentation. Then for the last 20 or 30 minutes, we'll open the floor for Q&A. Make sure to write down any questions as you think of them related to your struggles and experiences accessing services as an older adult, whether that is with home care, facilities, medical services and long term care. Whatever your struggles and frustrations have been, we want to hear your stories. We'll be happy to answer your questions, too. I look forward to seeing you at our OAA webinar on June 4th at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time. See you there!
